A wonderful collaboration with my friend.
Suspended in the vastness of uncertainty
A prisoner without chains yet can’t be free
It called me, I was curious and now it has me
I cry, a dance with the waves uncertain grace
Embracing waters, in a hesitant dance
A quest for buoyancy, a novice’s last fight
“I don’t know how to swim,” yet I’m in the stream.
My eyes sting with regret
And confusion
and fear
I reach out to the sign at the side
‘Adult pool’
Maybe if my arm stretches beyond its limit
I just might be saved within the minute
But my throat closes up
My mouth opens
Water gushes in
I don’t know how to swim, yet I’m in the stream.
Waves whisper secrets, untold stories unfold
A mystery deep, in its embrace, I’m told
No escape from the ocean’s enchanting plea
A sailor without a compass, navigating the tide
In the vastness of waves, where fears may subside
Yet, in this surrender, a newfound decree
It called me, I was curious, and now it has me.
The whispers morph into a song
The waves calm
My vision clears
I was wrong
I didn’t have to know how to swim
I just needed to trust the stream
The once hesitant dance
Now a coordinated feat
The uncertainty, my beat
The water and I are one
It has me
But I command the sea.
Great poem
